In recent years, New York State has been negatively impacted by the abandonment of many nonprofit regulated cemeteries. This is an evolving crisis not just for the families they serve, but for the local governments that are
required to assume the operation and maintenance of these abandoned cemeteries. Fortunately, Lake View is operated and maintained wholly by its Board members and volunteers. Many local students walk through the cemetery daily on their way to school pursuant to the Walking Safe Cayuga Heights program. Please consider visiting this valuable local resource. We also welcome new volunteers.
Our Location
Located behind the Ithaca High School off of Lake Street, which at one time had a commanding view of Cayuga Lake. It is a beautiful serene resting place of close to 8,000 burials, which includes many notables from the Ithaca community.
Our Mission
Our mission is to honor the memory and dignity of those buried in Lake View Cemetery by maintaining a serene and respectful resting place and providing pleasant surroundings for families and visitors.
